Ogni Lampada Tiffany racchiude tante storie: la creatività, il design e anche il ruolo della donna nel mondo del lavoro. la Tiffany Glass Company, poi Tiffany Studios - attiva a New York tra il 1878 e il 1933 - venne fondata da Louis Comfort Tiffany, figlio di uno dei soci titolari della gioielleria Tiffany & Co. Louis voleva fabbricare oggetti artistici in vetro e accolse nei suoi Studios anche 35 donne, che venivano chiamate “le ragazze di Tiffany” e si dedicavano all’intaglio del vetro. Tiffany, precorrendo i tempi, compensava con lo stesso salario sia gli uomini che le donne impiegati nei suoi Studios, a patto che quest’ultime fossero “single”, ovvero né fidanzate, né sposate. In parte per questo lavoro femminile a intermittenza e in parte perché Tiffany non fece mai siglare le opere dai loro autori, solo all’inizio del 2000 il rinvenimento di un epistolario ha rivelato che l’autrice di alcune delle più belle creazioni degli Studios - tra cui l’iconica “Dragonfly”- si chiamava Claire Driscoll. Le lettere dicono che, vista la sua bravura, la Driscoll ricoprì il ruolo di designer e supervisore delle “ragazze di Tiffany” per vent’anni, al passo con la sua vita sentimentale. E’ interessante ricordare che - grazie alla sua perizia - è stata una delle donne più pagate del suo tempo ed è tra le artefici delle numerose Lampade di Tiffany – con paralume di vetro piombato colorato – che sono oggi raccolte nei maggiori musei di design del mondo. Each Tiffany Lamp contains many stories: Creativity, Design and also the role of women in the Work’s World. the Tiffany Glass Company, later Tiffany Studios - active in New York between 1878 and 1933 - was founded by Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of one of the partners of the Tiffany & Co. jewelry store. Louis wanted to create artistic glass objects and give employ in his Studios to 35 women, called "the girls of Tiffany", which dedicated themselves to glass carving. Tiffany, ahead of its time, compensated with the same salary  both men and women employed in his Studios, as long as the women were "single": neither engaged, nor married. Partly because of this intermittent female work and partly because Tiffany never had the works signed by their authors, only at the beginning of 2000 the discovery of an epistolary revealed that the author of some of the most beautiful creations of the Studios - between whose the iconic “Dragonfly” - was Claire Driscoll. The letters say that, given her skill, Driscoll held the role of designer and supervisor of the "Tiffany's girls" for twenty years, to the rhythm of his love life. It is interesting to remember that - thanks to her expertise - she was one of the highest paid women of her time and is among the creators of the numerous Tiffany lamps - with colored leaded glass shade - which are now collected in the major design museums in the world. Historian Lugano sells also this story.
